1950s B movie "Alien"

A long while ago in the UK on TV I saw a black and white B movie that seemed to have a very similar story to Ridley Scott's Alien, even to the point that the alien exited via the door, from what I can remember. Can anyone tell me what this is called.

From SF Movie Explorers:

The science fiction movie you are looking for is called It! The Terror from Beyond Space.

This movie, besides the film Planet of the Vampires and various other sources like Clifford D. Simak short story "Junkyard" - listed in David McIntee's book Beautiful Monsters: The Unofficial and Unauthorized Guide to the Alien and Predator Films, was great inspiration for Dan O'Bannon while he was writing a screenplay for Alien.

The film was released in 1958, it was directed by Edward L. Cahn. Cast included Marshall Thompson, Shawn Smith, Kim Spalding, Ann Doran, Dabbs Greer.

Actor/stuntman Ray "Crash" Corrigan played the humanoid alien IT.

According to It! The Terror from Beyond Space movie trivia:

"The mask of the monster suit was altered considerably. When Ray Corrigan was fitted for the monster suit, the mask was initially too tight.

Paul Blaisdell, the maker of the monster suit, had to remove and rebuild the monster's lower jaw so the mask would fit better.

Unfortunately, Corrigan's chin stuck out through the opening made in the mask. Blaisdell made up Corrigan's chin to look like the monster's tongue. The mask's original eyes (large and catlike, a Blaisdell trademark) were also removed so that we see Corrigan's own eyes behind the mask."

Here is a brief summary:

After a tragic mission to Mars, another ship is sent to bring back the sole survivor Col. Edward Carruthers. He is accused of killing his crew on Red Planet and awaits trial when they come back although he claims he is innocent.

On the journey back to Earth the crew soon realize that they have an uninvited alien passenger on board. They have to hunt it down if they are to stand any chance of reaching home alive.
