Science Fiction Horror Movies
- The Stuff Nightmares Are Made Of

Science fiction horror movies, the grisly offspring of the union of the two genres, offer some of the most chilling SF concepts: mutant monsters, lethal aliens, killer robots and many, many more.

It is a comforting thought that on a day-to-day basis we aren't chased by lions or some other sharp-toothed animal and there aren't many scary situations which put us in a life threatening danger (your boss excluding). Nevertheless, we can put our courage to the test every day by watching science fiction horror movies.

These films combine our most dreadful fears with endless possibilities and of all the likely outcomes they explore the scariest ones - the worst-case scenarios.

Lethal types of aliens

These scenarios are scarier than ghosts and vampires, although you can find them here too, as they bring greater, no matter how far fetched, plausibility into play. This alone, for me, beats supernatural fantasy anytime.

In the "what if" world plenty of factors can go wrong and each gets a chance to scare us. And some are very, very scary.

The scariest ones will lend you quality, often recurring, nightmares which can easily drive you straight into insomnia. Who can ask for more?

First you enjoy the scares while watching the movies. It isn't a biggy because the main characters will almost always overcome their fears and find a way to beat their adversaries. But the fun does not end there.

After science fiction horror movies end you can mull over the frightening ideas and finally you can enjoy the repetition of terrifying images in your dreams as they come to haunt you at night.

The images coming back to haunt you at night part takes some getting used to. It is like watching a rerun, but this time around we get to play the main role and stand face to face with the monster. Which is bound to happen as you explore this genre. And when you do my advice is, proceed with extreme caution.

It is incredible what SF and horror can do when they come together. They will shake you, they will chill you, they will shock your system into alertness.

You can choose from wide range of chilling movie experiences including:

  • Deadly aliens, haunted spaceships and terrifying planets
  • Robots with sharp metal objects and without them
  • Scientists and their costly, ghastly experiments
  • Viruses, mutations, the end of the world and beyond

I know what you are thinking - If they are so scary, why would anyone in their right mind watch these movies and deprive their body of well-deserved nourishing sleep? My answer is, because there are so many great science fiction horror movies worth a few sleepless nights.
